Sorry for my absence lately. I've been so busy of late participating in a course that I have hardly had anytime to read, let alone continue updating all my social media platforms. That being said, unfortunately my blog was the platform that has suffered the most. I hope you can be sympathetic to my current busier schedule. Unfortunately my course is a year long and I'm not sure if my busier schedule is going to last the whole year or just this first module. I do hope to be back blogging soon though.

I'm not completely gone, I'm still updating my goodreads and YouTube channel regularly, as well Instagram and Twitter with general updates. Links are all in the right sidebar.

See you all soon :-)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07309559001358686576noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3202678229661978920.post-40587260366209835712014-06-26T10:00:00.000+01:002014-06-26T10:00:00.802+01:00Rebel Nation by Shaunta Grimes (Viral Nation #2) Book Review | Blog Tour Stop

Shaunta Grimes has worked as a substitute teacher, a newspaper reporter, a drug court counselor, and a vintage clothing seller. No matter which direction she strays, however, she always comes back to storytelling. She lives in Reno with her family, where she writes, teaches, and perpetually studies at the University of Nevada. Viral Nation is her debut traditionally-published novel.
Viral Nation
After a virus claimed nearly the entire global population, the world changed. The United States splintered into fifty walled cities where the surviving citizens clustered to start over. The Company, which ended the plague by bringing a life-saving vaccine back from the future, controls everything. They ration the scant food and supplies through a lottery system, mandate daily doses of virus suppressant, and even monitor future timelines to stop crimes before they can be committed.
Even more twisted and survival based than Viral Nation! This series keeps getting better and better with every book.

Rebel Nation seamlessly wove the story from Viral Nation (book 1) and reminded us readers of the main story developments from book 1 but without overkill - an element not usually done so efficiently, well done Grimes! I did however miss the time travel element from book 1 but I do fully understand and appreciate its non-existence due to the focus of the Freaks in the present and concentrating on rooting themselves for the Winter months as well as escaping Bennett's grasp.

Bennett's character in Rebel Nation was even more evil than book 1 - a task I didn't think possible! There was one scene in particular that was so craftily written by Grimes that I thought I knew what Bennett had done, but I wasn't sure - I was also hoping he hadn't - and it turned out he did! I still can't believe it! He's so evil!

I further continued to enjoy Clover's character in Rebel Nation, as I did in Viral Nation, and continued to feel that her autism made her character more interesting and her behaviour in certain situations added to the chaos of the post-apocalyptic world and the dystopian theme. Mango, Clover's dog companion, again was my favourite character, he didn't get as much focus in Rebel Nation but he continued to understand and help Clover's behaviour and thoughts. She's certainly building herself a good support system now with Mango, West and Jude - there was more development of the Clover and Jude relationship in Rebel Nation too which was sweet.

Overall Rebel Nation did not disappoint with its dystopian content, more details were presented about the Company and their evil doings, the Freaks rebellion as well as the world outside of Reno and other survivor settlements. This rebellion has officially kicked off and I guess we'll now have to until Book 3 to see how it all continues. Once again I've been left wishing I had the next book. Grimes writes a superb cliffhanger again!
You stop fearing the devil when you’re holding his hand…
Nothing much exciting rolls through Violet White’s sleepy, seaside town… until River West comes along. River rents the guest house behind Violet’s crumbling estate, and as eerie, grim things start to happen, Violet begins to wonder about the boy living in her backyard.

Is River just a crooked-smiling liar with pretty eyes and a mysterious past? Or could he be something more?

Violet’s grandmother always warned her about the Devil, but she never said he could be a dark-haired boy who takes naps in the sun, who likes coffee, who kisses you in a cemetery... who makes you want to kiss back.

Violet’s already so knee-deep in love, she can’t see straight. And that’s just how River likes it.
Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea is a modern day Gatsby-esque drama including vintage mansions, wealthy families with the drama and infidelity all mixed together.

Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea is narrated through Violet's perspective, a 17 year-old book-loving, intelligent teenage girl who's quirky and vintage style all stems from her grandmother Freddie. After Freddie's death a couple of years ago, Violet now likes to remember her grandmother by wearing her vintage clothes and imagining she's speaking to her in her head. But since Freddie's death, Violet's family has let their historic mansion turn to ruins and when Violet's parents run off to Europe to divulge themselves in art, Violet and her brother Luke are left to think of ways to earn money. Since they've never worked a day in their lives and their family is major part of small town, Echo's, heritage they post a flyer advising their guesthouse for rent. Cue River, the mysterious handsome 17 year-old stranger, who rides into town and rents Violet's guesthouse. But River is not to be trusted and as Violet starts to become interested in him, she learns that River is a compulsive liar and he's hiding a dark and horrific secret.

Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea was an addictive read to begin with, I loved the Gatsby-esque similarities and location, and the beginnings of Violet's and River's relationship was intoxicating. Unfortunately though, as the story progressed and River's secrets began unravelling, the story started to become very predictable and began to feel a little rushed. Overall, a gorgeously descriptive and imaginative story but I would have preferred the action and horror aspects of the story to be a little more rounded and un-rushed.

If you're looking for a story with a vintage flair and will-they-won't-they romanic storyline then this is definitely a book to check out!
This series has stepped up yet another gear, with City of Lost Souls possibly being my favourite book in the series so far!

I've had a love/like/sometimes bored relationship with The Moral Instruments series up until City of Lost Souls. I loved City of Bones, liked City of Ashes, found City of Glass a little boring in places but overall liked it - I thought I would have loved it if I hadn't been spoiled on a couple of things - and liked City of Fallen Angels. Therefore when I was starting of City of Lost Souls I wasn't sure how I'd feel about it - but I loved it!! Possibly my favourite or at least 2nd favourite book of the series so far. I'm so excited to wrap up the series with City of Heavenly Fire, any day now.

City of Lost Souls was a breeze to read from start to finish. I loved the further development of characters who aren't necessarily main characters e.g. Maia and Jordan, as well as the continuing relationship between Simon and Isabelle, Jace and Clary, and of course Alec and Magnus. The wealth of characters and POVs is definitely a major reason why I love this series.

The travel locations in this book also added a lot of variety to what could have been a very repetitive storyline - Venice, Paris, New York as well as the small settings within these locations were all amazing!

Cannot wait for the final book - give me now!! :-)
Here's a collection of 10 books that I will be donating to my local charity bookstore. I've been busy spring-cleaning and clearing out aspects of my bedroom ready for my big move which is likely to be happening in June.

Thanks for watching :-)
This stunning debut captures the grotesque madness of a mystical under-land, as well as a girl’s pangs of first love and independence. Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers—precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now.
When her mother’s mental health takes a turn for the worse, Alyssa learns that what she thought was fiction is based in terrifying reality. The real Wonderland is a place far darker and more twisted than Lewis Carroll ever let on. There, Alyssa must pass a series of tests, including draining an ocean of Alice’s tears, waking the slumbering tea party, and subduing a vicious bandersnatch, to fix Alice’s mistakes and save her family. She must also decide whom to trust: Jeb, her gorgeous best friend and secret crush, or the sexy but suspicious Morpheus, her guide through Wonderland, who may have dark motives of his own.

Alice is a 12 year old whose coming to terms with the disappearance of her father - but Alice knows the truth, her father was mixed up in some mysterious magical mayhem. Before his disappearance, Alice overheard a conversation between her father and a monstrous looking fairy which suggested that the fairy had a sinister plan which involved their family. Only days after this conversation, Alice's father disappeared and Alice makes it her mission to hunt down that fairy and find out what led to her father's disappearance!
She explores dark and dangerous worlds in order to discover the truth behind her father's disappearance and consequently finds out that she has magical powers of her own as a 'Reader' - someone who can enter books and became part of the story just by reading a few words.

The Forbidden Library was a magically adventurous Middle Grade fantasy book which beautifully described the settings and monsters involved within the story. The illustrations add a lot of depth to the writings and further help imagine this magical world.

The Forbidden Library is one of those stories which can be enjoyed by both children, teenagers and adults alike.
Hi fellow book lovers,

It's that time again, the next Bout of Books Readathon is now open for sign-ups. The 10th Bout of Books Readathon is running from Monday 12th May until Sunday 18th May and I'm participating again :-) I have no scheduled reads as of yet but I'll post a TBR in the few days before with my intended goals and reads.
Is anyone else signing up already?
<class blockquote1="">
</class>
<class blockquote1="">
The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 12th and runs through Sunday, May 18th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 10 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. - From the Bout of Books team.</class>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07309559001358686576noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3202678229661978920.post-90888486690358356742014-04-18T20:47:00.000+01:002014-04-18T20:47:33.516+01:00Book Haul | April 2014

In April, I splashed a little cash and treated myself to some popular books I've been pining over for a little while. Most of these you will know, other you may not.

Be sure to leave me a comment with your thoughts on any of these books I haul or which one you'd like to see a full review for.
My name is Caitlin, I’m seventeen years old and run a booktube channel I started earlier this year. I post a variety of videos on my channel; hauls, reviews, wrap ups, tags, and many more! I've also got some series and discussion videos planned for the future!

I read a wide variety of novels within Young Adult and New Adult fiction. Out of all the books I read though, romance (or books with strong romantic pairings) are my favourite kinds of reads….A book that makes me swoon is a book worth reading in my opinion, haha!

What made you decide to start your channel and what are the main reasons you keep making videos?

The main reason I decided to start my channel two months ago was to take the next step in growing my blog and connecting with my readers. Running a book blog for the past two years really opened my eyes to the awesomeness of connecting with bookish people via the internet, and once I discovered booktube, I was pretty much determined to start a channel of my own. It took quite some time before I actually got my first video up, but thankfully I faced my fears and am SO glad I did! The tremendous support I’ve received from both the community and fellow book lovers, in addition to sharing my love for reading, have really encouraged me to continue making videos people (hopefully) enjoy! :P

What is your favourite book?

I am terrible at choosing favourites…it’s like asking a mother to choose between her children— impossible! One of my recent favourites though is Sweet Reckoning by Wendy Higgins, the concluding novel to the Sweet trilogy. It releases on April 29th, 2014 and all I’ve got to say is prepare for epic-ness….and LOTS of good Kaidan material! ;) *swoons*

If you could read one genre for the rest of your life, which genre would you choose?

If you can’t already guess, it would be romance, romance, and more romance! There’s something just so addicting about rooting for the perfect couple to make it out with a happily ever after….I also think romance adds lots of depth to a story. It allows readers the opportunity to see a more intimate and vulnerable side of characters that you may not have been exposed to without it!

If you could live in any book world created, which would you choose?

Most definitely Cassandra Clare’s shadowhunter world. It’s filled with tons of history and fascinating creatures….plus, I wouldn’t mind being a bad ass shadowhunter like Isabelle! Black is also one of my favourite colours to wear, so I think I’d fit in well! :P

What has been your best/favourite booktubing moment so far and why?

The moment that stands out to me the most would definitely be reaching 1000 subscribers! I never thought that I would receive such a welcoming response from the community, and it was kind of overwhelming to see that so many people cared enough to hit that subscribe button! Sorry for my recent absence from this blog, life has become pretty hectic recently but mostly because I'm currently house hunting - I'm looking for my own place finally! Goodbye parents house and hello my very own house to fill with lots of book related goodness. I've already requested a custom-made bookcase to be made by my dad :-).

I haven't actually got a house secured at the moment but I've managed to narrow it down to a couple of options, fingers crossed I'll be able to complete any sales soon and be in the new house before summer truly hits. I can just imagine myself sitting in the garden reading a book and sipping cold lemonade already.

As I'm still looking for a place, I may still be absent for the foreseeable future as a lot of my time is house viewing and searching the internet for new properties at the moment. I do still have BookTuber/Blogger Interviews every fortnight so there's is some content being posted on Cold Tea and Crumbs. I've got a very special interview posting tomorrow with the lovely Caitlin from The Y.A. Bookworm Blogger. I am still reading in my spare time too though so I will have lots of reviews posted once I have some extra free time available. There's also still BookTube videos uploads on Fridays so make sure you're subscribed to my YouTube channel for new content from me on a weekly basis. I also update my Goodreads and Twitter daily so you can always find out what I'm doing there first :-)

Hopefully be back to blogging regularity soon :-)

Thanks,
Panic began as so many things do in Carp, a dead-end town of 12,000 people in the middle of nowhere: because it was summer, and there was nothing else to do.

Heather never thought she would compete in Panic, a legendary game played by graduating seniors, where the stakes are high and the payoff is even higher. She’d never thought of herself as fearless, the kind of person who would fight to stand out. But when she finds something, and someone, to fight for, she will discover that she is braver than she ever thought.

Dodge has never been afraid of Panic. His secret will fuel him, and get him all the way through the game, he’s sure of it. But what he doesn't know is that he’s not the only one with a secret. Everyone has something to play for.

For Heather and Dodge, the game will bring new alliances, unexpected revelations, and the possibility of first love for each of them—and the knowledge that sometimes the very things we fear are those we need the most.

Panic is an explosive, heart-pounding contemporary that will have you peeing your pants with terror when the characters participate in games which put their life in danger in order to win $64,000.

I was over the moon when I’d been approved to read Panic from Netgalley and put it straight to the top of my TBR. I’d heard so much hype surrounding the book and once I was in a dystopia mood, I went straight to Panic. However, BIG ANNOUNCEMENT, Panic is not a dystopia! All the listings and pre-read comments on goodreads have all categorised this book incorrectly because it is actually a contemporary. I completely understand why people categorised Panic as a dystopia based on the vague synopsis given and Lauren Oliver’s previous work, The Delirium Series – however this mis-categorisation led to me picking up a book I wasn’t in the mood for. However, once I’d accepted that Panic was a contemporary and moved on, I quickly got immersed into the story and began to enjoy this story for what it was.

Panic reminded me in a way of John Green’s characters because Panic’s characters were all from different backgrounds and had their own issues – which ultimately led to their participation in the ‘Panic’ games. Katie McGarry’s writing also came to mind at moments, especially during the romance and relationship elements of Panic, due to the explosive dynamics involved. I would definitely recommend Panic if you are a fan of either of these authors as you’ll no doubt see the similarities too and therefore enjoy this story.

Overall Panic was an enjoyable read, at times the story development was predictable- however I somewhat expect that when reading a contemporary so I didn't feel like it was too much of a negative of this book.

Time is running out for Rhine in this conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Chemical Garden Trilogy.

With the clock ticking until the virus takes its toll, Rhine is desperate for answers. After enduring Vaughn’s worst, Rhine finds an unlikely ally in his brother, an eccentric inventor named Reed. She takes refuge in his dilapidated house, though the people she left behind refuse to stay in the past. While Gabriel haunts Rhine’s memories, Cecily is determined to be at Rhine’s side, even if Linden’s feelings are still caught between them.

Meanwhile, Rowan’s growing involvement in an underground resistance compels Rhine to reach him before he does something that cannot be undone. But what she discovers along the way has alarming implications for her future—and about the past her parents never had the chance to explain.

In this breathtaking conclusion to Lauren DeStefano’s Chemical Garden trilogy, everything Rhine knows to be true will be irrevocably shattered.

Ridley and Link are back!

This short story by Beautiful Creatures authors, Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, is introduction back into The Caster Chronicles world and cleverly transitions the narration from Ethan over to Link and Ridley beginning their spin-off series – an element I thoroughly enjoyed and felt tied the two series together nicely.

Ridley and Link are as argumentative and unruly as usual whilst maintaining their version of a functional relationship. That is, until Link says three ‘little’ words that sends Ridley running away and leaving Link to wonder where she is. Ridley being Ridley, ends up in an unexpected situation which then leads us into the story of Dangerous Creatures (Out 20th May).

Dangerous Dream was an enjoyable read and I loved each and every page. I really enjoyed The Caster Chronicles (maybe not so much Beautiful Chaos but all the rest were good) and therefore I was glad to have a small narrative by Ethan before switching over to Link & Ridley’s narratives for the Dangerous Creatures Series. Ridley and Link were always my favourite characters in The Caster Chronicles so I’m super excited they are getting a spin-off series - I can’t wait to learn even more about them, especially their thoughts now they are both narrating. Fabulous – A must read!

Before reading this book, it was the cover that drew me in. I absolutely love the softness of the pink and the ‘put-together’ feel of the heart shape element. After reading the book I can see elements of the cover representing aspects of the story and that makes me love it even more now.

The Summer I Found You is an enjoyable read about romance, self-discovery, learning to live with life changes as well as body changes. Both main characters have a new life that they have unwilling been handed. Aidan has returned back from war with the loss of an arm and Katie is coming to terms with being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Both have their own issues and are coming to terms with this new element of their life but when they meet each other, both find the other refreshingly easy to get along with and as an escape from the issues they face.

As regularly readers to my blog and watchers of my YouTube channel will know, I am not a big contemporary reader but this book was amazing and had me hooked from the first page! I really enjoyed the easiness I felt when reading this book, the writing just seemed to flow and I was swept away whilst discovering Katie and Aidan’s feelings for each other. I also enjoyed the element of self-discovery and coming-to-terms that both characters went through, this added another layer to the story and I was willing both characters along – even if I wanted to smack Katie sometimes for being so stupid!

The Summer I Found You is an enjoyable fluffy love story but with important underlying messages. I would recommend for fans of Katie McGarry’s books (Pushing the Limits, Dare You To, and Crash Into You).

Set just before the events of Into the Still Blue, the conclusion to Veronica Rossi's Under the Never Sky trilogy, this breathtaking novella is a satisfying stand-alone for new readers as well as an exciting glimpse at favorite characters from the trilogy. Pulsing with romance and danger, Brooke will leave readers desperate for the conclusion to this epic and unforgettable saga.

The only fight she can't win is the one for Perry's heart. Following the stunning climax in Through the Ever Night, the Tides have been forced to seek shelter from the Aether storms in a dismal, secluded cave. But Brooke's memories of the cave go back much further, to when she and Perry used to come here together. That was before Perry fell in love with Aria and before Vale's dealings with the Dwellers altered the course of the Tides forever.

Now, with her sister back from a haunting year in captivity and Aria lying unconscious in the sick bay, Brooke struggles to put the pieces of her life back together. Without Perry, who is she? And what is her role in this frightening new world? As these questions swirl about her, an old threat to the Tides resurfaces, and Brooke is forced to put the lives of her people before her own. But in taking this step outside of herself, Brooke may finally discover what she truly wants.

Brooke’s character has been a bit of an enigma in both Under the Never Sky and Through the Ever Night. As Perry’s ex, she’s always been part of the story through her interactions with Perry and Aria’s weariness of her, however she’s never had a serious part to play in the development of the story. I therefore didn’t really know what to expect before reading this novella and wasn’t eager to read it. However, once I started reading Brooke’s POV and discovering more about her I actually found myself liking her character and addicted to the situations which were developed in this novella.

The Brooke novella is definitely a short story because of the elements that are wrapped up from Under the Never Sky and Through the Ever Night which are addressed within Into the Still Blue. In book 2, Wylan and other members of the tribe left the Tides after an incident and in this novella we discover the aftermath of that. I really liked seeing this aftermath as well as learning more about the brothers within the ‘Six’ and the flirting that ensues with Brooke. A definite read for all fans of the Under the Never Sky series – a novella that cannot be missed!

Before Perry and Aria, there was Roar and Liv.

After a childhood spent wandering the borderlands, Roar finally feels like he has a home with the Tides. His best friend Perry is like a brother to him, and Perry's sister, Liv, is the love of his life. But Perry and Liv's unpredictable older brother, Vale, is the Blood Lord of the Tides, and he has never looked kindly on Roar and Liv's union. Normally, Roar couldn't care less about Vale's opinion. But with food running low and conditions worsening every day, Vale's leadership is more vital—and more brutal—than ever. Desperate to protect his tribe, Vale makes a decision that will shatter the life Roar knew and change the fate of the Tides forever.

Set in the harsh but often beautiful world of Veronica Rossi's "unforgettable" Under the Never Sky (Examiner.com), this captivating prequel novella stands on its own for new readers and offers series fans a fascinating look into the character of Roar. Poignant and powerful, Roar and Liv is a love story that will "capture your imagination and your heart." (Justine on Under the Never Sky)

I was excited to discover more about Roar in this novella from his perspective because he was one of my favourite characters from the Under the Never Sky Series. As Perry’s best friend, Roar is a proper ‘lad’ and yet he’s loyal and loving - the object of his affections being is Perry’s sister, Liv, and she feels exactly the same way. However, Liv and Roar are not set to have the happy life together they expected after the Tides tribe leader/blood lord, and also Liv’s brother, arranges her marriage to another tribes’ blood lord in exchange for food and resources which the Tides desperately need.

This novella was a little flat and underwhelming for me as I wanted to learn more about Roar and further experience his witty humour but unfortunately, this doesn’t quite come across the same in the Roar & Liv novella as it did in Under the Never Sky. Overall this novella was an interesting read, especially regarding events that happen in Through the Ever Night (book 2) which this novella further helps provide background for. As novellas go, this was good and worth reading for another book set in this world.
